Ditch the All-or-Nothing Mentality This Holiday Season
Share
Hi fitness friends,
With Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, and a dozen other celebrations around the corner, I wanted to share a mindset shift that’s helped me thrive through the holidays - not just survive them.
It’s so easy to get caught in the all-or-nothing mindset this time of year (emphasis on the nothing). Between the travel, parties, and endless dessert tables, it’s no wonder many people think, “I’ll just start fresh in January.”
But here’s the truth:
All-or-nothing thinking is what keeps you stuck.
Having a full schedule doesn’t make you weak - it makes you human. The real challenge is learning how to adapt when life gets chaotic. And this time of year? It’s the perfect opportunity to practice that skill.
🎯 The Problem with Perfection
When your calendar fills up, your workouts and nutrition are often the first to go. You miss one session, grab fast food once or twice, and suddenly you feel like you’ve blown all your progress.
But here’s the thing:
Missing one workout or having a slice of pie doesn’t undo months of consistency. Quitting because you weren’t perfect does.
💡 Reframe the All-or-Nothing Mentality
Instead of aiming for perfect, aim for possible.
Try this:
→ When you get a flat tire, you don’t slash the remaining three.
→ When you spill a glass of milk, you don’t pour out the rest of the carton.
→ When you find a leak in your kitchen, you don’t flood the entire house.
So why treat your health any differently?
🏋️ Practical Ways to Stay Consistent
→ Shorten your workouts. Even 20–30 minutes counts. Hit the big lifts and move on.
→ Simplify your nutrition. Focus on protein and produce most of the time - then enjoy your favorite holiday foods guilt-free.
→ Keep your non-negotiables. Hydrate, move daily, and get enough sleep. These go a long way during busy weeks.
All-or-something is infinitely better than all-or-nothing.
